Transformative Field Case Studies in Ariège

Authentic accounts of social inclusion, emotional healing, and civic empowerment in our territory.

Reconnecting Memory & Dignity in Geriatric Care

Context & Location: Centre Hospitalier Ariège Couserans (CHAC) – Geriatric & Long-Term Care Units.

The Challenge: Patients coping with severe neurocognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and post-stroke aphasia, frequently suffer from deep frustration and withdrawal when unable to verbally express their thoughts.

The A CORDA Intervention: Our certified art practitioners implemented bi-weekly sensory tactile sessions utilizing damp Occitanie terracotta clay and botanical watercolors. Free from verbal demands, residents molded simple vessels, felt organic textures, and painted with natural earth pigments.

Documented Outcome: Nursing staff documented a 78% reduction in afternoon behavioral agitation. Several non-verbal patients demonstrated spontaneous smiles, improved fine motor dexterity, and renewed willingness to communicate with their families.

Breaking Winter Isolation in the High Valley of Massat

Context & Location: Mountain commune of Massat and surrounding hamlets (Couserans).

The Challenge: Geographically isolated retirees living without personal vehicles experienced acute winter isolation, resulting in feelings of abandonment and reduced physical mobility.

The A CORDA Intervention: Our Mobile Cultural Caravan established a monthly communal printmaking and textile salon at the Massat community hall, offering free transport coordination with municipal social services.

Documented Outcome: Over 45 multi-generational valley residents gathered each month. Participants created a permanent 12-meter collective linocut tapestry celebrating Couserans oral heritage, now displayed publicly in the municipal foyer. Over 90% of participants reported feeling more connected to their community.

Civic Empowerment Through Youth Mural Art

Context & Location: Saint-Girons Community Center & Public High Schools.

The Challenge: Rural teenagers expressed a feeling of invisibility and lack of cultural agency, feeling that contemporary public spaces did not reflect their aspirations.

The A CORDA Intervention: A four-month collaborative civic mural project led by professional muralists and sound artists, completely free for 28 adolescents aged 12 to 19.

Documented Outcome: The participants conceived, designed, and painted a 60-square-meter public mural illustrating Pyrenean biodiversity, while recording an accompanying multilingual audio podcast explaining each botanical motif. The youth presented their work directly to the municipal council.

Annual Public Impact Reports & Evaluation Methodology

Our commitment to rigorous social accounting and public interest auditing.

Quantitative Tracking

We maintain comprehensive attendance registries across every workshop session, recording participant numbers, age demographics, geographical origin (by commune), and repeat engagement rates to verify equitable territorial distribution.

Clinical Partner Assessments

In clinical healthcare programs, attending nurses and physicians complete quarterly standardized observation rubrics documenting patient mood variations, social responsiveness, and stress-indicator reductions.

Independent Civic Review

All impact summaries and moral balance sheets are submitted to our institutional partners (DRAC, Conseil Départemental, ARS, Municipalities) and reviewed publicly during our annual General Assembly in Saint-Girons.
